A trip to near Scotland was the order of the day, the weather was not great and would make for a hard race. The 3/4 set off with Luke and Grant for the team. The race mainly stayed together but Luke fell victim to a puncture, Grant was active but got boxed in the sprint, and made the top 20. In the Elites race the man to watch was Richard Handley, he was marked from the start, and a small group formed eventually behind him. James had just been up the road, and so missed this one, as did Andy. Read more ...
Conditions were atrocious for week 15 of Salt Ayre League but despite the flooding in Lancashire and Cumbria, racing went on in Lancaster.
Returning from Dubai, via some racing in Belgium, Jamie Shirlaw was riding his first event in Britain this year and attacked from the start taking Andrew Pickering with him and staying away.
With these riders teams blocking Julian tried to bridge the gap alone and almost made it but it was too big an ask for a lone rider. Steve and Julian then made sure they were either in every move or kept them to a distance they could close. Read more ...
The team was undertaking it's first proper outing at a Premier. Steve, Dafydd, James and Andy were riding with Roger, Stacey and Martin in support. The day started with a near miss, we slightly misjudged a low height barrier, which resulted in a close scrape for the bikes! Then the prep started. James's Dad and Mum helped at the feed, and Martin, Stacey and Roger manned the car. The race started quickly, and Dafydd with Steve helped keep the duo of James and Andy in the front for the main circuit. Read more ...
Another night at Preston saw Jerrod ride his first race for the team, in which he was competing in the 3/4 race, having a few moves to try and get off the front. He was in contention for the gallop at the finish, and was rewarded with a great 4th place. Andy was in action again after Colne, and along with Matthew and Steve, making a first appearance at Preston due to work commitments on most Thursdays. They were all involved in competing in a brisk race. Read more ...
Summer must be here as it finally rained at Salt Ayre. After 13 dry Tuesdays this week it was cold, wet and decidedly horrible. As a result only 21 riders started and only 15 finished. Julian went with the early break then Steve covered the next one and it stayed away with 6 riders working well together and eventually lapping the field.
Jack Cousins attacked the break in the closing laps to finish alone and James Dunlop just beat Steve in the sprint for 2nd but 3rd place was a good consistent finish for Steve and keeps him well up in the League overall. Read more ...
A tough evening with strong cross winds on the finishing climb which had to be tackled 7 times on the 5 mile circuit. Steve made a brave effort to get away for second place towards the end but was caught. Winner was Matt Robinson from All Terrain Cycles. Matt 15th in the bunch sprint for the line with Steve riding in at the back after his big effort to get away.
The team only had 3 riders at Salt Ayre this week but managed to cover every move and place in the top 10 at the finish. The first move went from the start line with Nev straight on to that and this created the first counter attack led by Julian. From there on Steve or Julian were in every move that went away and when Steve was in a good move with 5 laps to go and Julian hovering near the front of the bunch, it looked like it could stay away. It was however a bunch finish again although quite a few riders had been shelled out with the fast pace. Read more ...
Steve got an excellent 3rd from the break this week at Salt Ayre and there was some good teamwork to achieve it. Julian did loads of work to bring back an early break we missed. When the pace then slowed Nev went on the attack and, rather surprisingly, brough an immediate response from some of the stronger riders. Steve was able to bridge to that move and start the winning break which the team then defended even though Dafydd was itching to go on the attack too. Read more ...
The race at RAF Leeming was a closed circuit event covering a pan flat 4 mile loop. The course went around the ultra smooth access roads of the runway and as it was traffic free had an unlimited field entry. Unfortunately due to a certain World Cup match being played that afternoon the E/1/2 race only had 30+ starters. The temperature was baking hot and being on an airfield it was either strong cross, head or tail winds. Steve took to the line sure that due to low numbers and strong winds a move would go in the 1st few laps. Read more ...
