This is the Cyclo-Cross National Championships Preview from British cycling:
The junior Men's event will be one of the most eagerly awaited of the weekend, with this season's national racing being of a high standard. Two riders really stand out: Tom Moses, the defending champion has two national series wins under his belt this season and has wrapped up the series with a series of consistent rides; Daniel McClay has beaten Moses twice and won twice himself and got the better of their excellent battle at Bradford in early December. McClay's power might just give him the edge on the fast Sutton Coldfield course, whilst Moses may prefer it if it's icy or very wet. Read more ...
I rode the Notts and Derby cyclocross race at Thornbridge this weekend.
It was a cold day and the course was very slippery. With the snow coming down at the start of the race it was pretty slippery round some of the corners, which came to my advantage. Read more ...
This weekend I went to Belgium as part of a Yorkshire team funded by the Yorkshire cyclocross association and the Keith Edwards cyclocross fund. We did a double race weekend, racing in Lictervelde and Uitbergen. Conditions in Belgium were very cold, the mornings were -6 and whilst racing in the afternoon it was -2. This meant fast icy and snowy conditions which needed a lot of power to be able to power along the rutted snow and good bike handling skills to corner on the slippery corners. Read more ...
Today was the fifth round of the National Trophy series in Bradford. My race went well and only a crash prevented me from staying with the winner Dan McLay. However, getting second was enough for me to win the overall National Trophy series with one round to go. Here is the report from British Cycling of my race: Read more ...
This Sunday I was at Thornes Park in Wakefield for the North of England Championships. Due to the past few weeks' heavy rain the course was a muddy one. It was very technical, with some long flat parts where you could get your power out. I had an average start, going into the first technical section in second wheel. During this first technical section I used my skills to open a small gap on the rest of the field. Initially I thought I had gone too early in the race. Read more ...
UPDATE: Here's a nice video report of Tom's win last weekend: Read more ...
This weekend was the fourth round of the cyclo-cross National Trophy series. Here is the BC report of my race:
In the absence of round three winner and series leader Luke Gray, the race for the overall and a commanding lead was on. A group of three including Tom Moses, Josh Papworth and Alec Briggs formed on the early laps - each taking it in turns to make attacks in the early stages. However as Papworth emerged from the back end of the course with a tyre hanging from the back wheel it was obvious the race was down to two riders. Read more ...
Sunday was the fifth round of the Yorkshire Points Series, this time in Temple Newsham, Leeds. I had a good start and led the riders into the first wooded section. In the woods I managed to get a gap with Noel Clough (veteran national champion) on the rest of the field. Just before we got out of the woods I had a slip and lost some time on noel. As I came out of the woods it was a 10 second gap to Noel. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't close that gap and for fifty minutes we stayed at 10 seconds until with two laps to go I closed the gap up to him. Read more ...
I travelled to Belgium on Thursday to ride the European Championships in Hoogstraten, Belgium. After training around the course the day before the race I liked the course, it was a short course and very fast with sandy banks and a long tarmac road section. I could ride the sandy banks okay and was confident about the race. I started on the front row with over sixty riders at the start. I had a good start and was fifth into the first corner and held my position during the first lap. Read more ...
