OPEN NATIONAL TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

OPEN NATIONAL TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sarah, Ella and Julian all rode the Open National Track Championships between 20th and 24th October.

The Ladies events had attracted a small but quality field including many of the top names of the track scene. Ella started her Championships with the individual 3 km pursuit and in the qualifying round Ella produced a 3.53.141. With only the fastest 4 going on to contest the medals the best Ella could manage was 5th and she cemented this position with another 3.53 in the ride-off. Gold medal winner was Sarah Storey. Preston GP

Firstly can I thank everyone who helped on the day, the two Mick's, Kevin and Jackie, Roger, John, Eldon, Nick, Emily and my very understanding wife Kay for helping a busy day go very well. Also all at Scott UK for their support. It was a great event, with the Pennine Events Guys, Preston and Lancashire Council, and CDNW making a fun and action packed days racing. We had a small team out due to other commitments, and a tired squad! Lewis gave it has all in a very strong elites race, mixing it with some big UK based pro's. Read more ...

Ella's on the radio!

Today between 6-7pm Ella will be on BBC Radio Lancashire as part of their series on 2012 prospects from the Northwest. We are very proud of Ella and she was great in the interview. She is currently racing abroad for GB again against the top pro ladies in Holland and more than holding her own.

Update: Here's the link to the Radio Lancashire feature and interview

Cockerham - two's up for Coupe

Andy Coupe secured a great result on the beast course that is cockerham. One thing is for sure on the marsh and that is wind. With the rain thrown in for good measure it turned out to be hard day and one where a break was going to hard to nail.
Fortunatly after working hard all race Andy Coupe managed to chip off with one lap to go, the other supporting. The break succeded and he managed to sprint for 2nd in the bunch gallop. Tom cracked through the take the peleton sprint...recording 48mph on the way in.
Well done to all riders on a tough day. Read more ...

Prizes on the night and overall

Well done everyone at the final Salt Ayre race of the season tonight.

Lewis was 3rd (we think, photo-finish being confirmed) and Steve 8th on the night, with Michael also in the front bunch. Hard luck Martin on the slow puncture - keep those bits of brake cable swept up off the shop floor in future!

In the series overall Steve was joint third, Ella was top female junior and Lewis (despite riding only a few of the events) was joint second junior.

National Junior Track Championships

nat champs 1

Four riders are representing the team at the Junior Nat Champs in Newport this week. Julian was in the Scratch and Sprint races, with a difficult race against the winner to start with but second in the repechage. Sarah and Ella had great 6th and 8th places in the Girls scratch events to earn the team yet more national points! Then Ella had the result of the Champs so far for us with an amazing silver medal in the individual pursuit final. Keep it up!

Smithfields RR

Sunday saw 7 Team riders make the long trip to compete in the Smithfields RR near Carlisle. On a wet and windy day Martin made his return (joy) and Eldon, Andy Coupe and Steve Abbott started the Elite race, with Martin, John Sherriffs, Grant Omerod and European Champ Ella starting the 3/4's. It was hard going and the weather did not help, in the 3/4's event there was small groups kept trying to get away but no one managed to stay out and it kept together for the usual hectic finish with Grant in the mix and Ella first Lady.
