Name - Neville Pearson
DOB - September 1957
Height - 175cm
Weight - 72kg or thereabouts
How long have you been racing:
40 years – raced every season since 1972 although some years just a few club 10’s
Favourite types of races:
I have raced Road – crits, circuit races, road races and short stage races; Track – indoor, outdoor and on grass; Cyclocross; Cross Country Mountainbike; Hillclimbs; Roller-racing and Time trials from 10 mile to 12 hours, spoco and team trials. I’ve tried them all and am yet to find what I’m good at (Not tried Downhill MTB or BMX yet!). I guess my favourite is track although what I really like is pottering up an alp on my bike - but that’s not racing.
Achievements:
Won a few RR’s, track races and TT’s.
Claim to fame - National College Student 25 mile TT Champion 1981
Goals:
To keep on riding my bike and put a bit back in to the sport.
If you had one wish:
That cycle sport receives the public respect it deserves – it’s a hard sport and there’s nothing glamorous about having a wet arse and being showered with mud – hence why I like track racing (don’t mention the splinters – or the sprinters!)
Heroes:
I don’t have heroes now (so many of them have disappointed me) but I admire Graham Obree for his determination and Alf Engers for his style – I’ve met them both and they’re okay blokes as well.
